Major Assignment #2: Images

Image
Hi friends! Here are 3 photos I have edited using GIMP! These were taken this past summer on a road trip through BC. I tried to use a variety of tools to match the vibe I wanted to create for each photo...enjoy! This first photo was taken in Victoria BC, China town. I did quite a bit with this photo to give it a vintage film/fish eye lense look. I adjusted the color levels to add more black, and the blue channel to give it a cool tone. I increased the shadows and decreased the highlights, however I added the white point adjustment. I also increased the saturation slightly to bring out all the colors. In filters...-> enhance -> sharpen, I increased the radius and amount to sharpen the details. Lastly, I created a new transparent layer for a vignette. This gave the fish eye effect once I adjusted it to my liking and lowered the opacity. This photo was taken on a beach in Ucluelet. In the layers mode I selected multiply, and the result instantly made the colors in the image vibrant....

Audacity Training

Hello friends, This past week I completed the Linkedin Audacity training. I immediately thought that this would be a great tool to use for students with a visual impairment, or learning disability. You could record audio lessons for students to refer to or use for learning.  It also reminded me of recording music when I was younger on the voice memos app. Or voiceovers for school projects such as videos and presentations. For the audio assignment I would like to create a podcast. I'm not quite sure what it will be about yet. But I am going to formulate a few topics this week and I want to record it with my friend Savannah. I have always thought it would be cool to start a podcast but never had the courage to try it out, so I think this assignment is a great excuse to play around! Peace + Love, Ki

Experiences Using GIMP

Hello friends, Since I have always used photo editing apps to to edit my personal photos I thought I would try using GIMP for the same purpose. I thought maybe my photos would turn out better this way. I take my photos on a iPhone, or with film. I chose to edit some of my iPhone photos I have previously taken while travelling through BC this summer. In the past I went all out and used all the tools available in photo editing apps to edit my personal photos. I put out a lot of great images. However, lately I have been getting overwhelmed with the options and usually end up keeping the editing simple! I was hoping GIMP would bring out the old Kianna, but I found it overwhelmed even more. The tools are great, I'm still just working on becoming familiar with what everything does. I feel as though my apps are more user friendly, and GIMP takes a lot more effort for me to edit a similar quality photo in comparison. Peace + Love, Ki

Thoughts on GIMP and PhotoPea

Hi friends, I am super excited about this class due to recommendations like this! I am big into insta travel bloggers that post beautiful photos of exotic places. I know that most of them use expensive image editing software such as Photoshop. I have never personally looked into it because I know it is pricey, but I have seen some of my photographer friends using it to edit their photos. I like the clean layout it offers and the compatibility with Mac, as well as the capability to edit on your phone. However, I would take a free editing software over Photoshop any day!  It seems as though GIMP can be compared well with Photoshop, minus some tools that make things easier.  I could see myself using this editing software to make presentations for students, or to share high quality photos with parents. I don't see myself doing much with legitimate photoshop. After the training, I'm genuinely super excited to practise using this program. It makes me want to get a good camera and st...
