Hello friends,

Today I'm going to be discussing the Instructional Design (ID) models we learned about in this weeks class. Keep in mind I have never heard about these types of models before, and I think in general they all provide great frameworks for creating lessons. The Gagnes 9 Events model seems to me like your typical cut and dry lesson planning model. Going through each of the 9 points reminds me of typing up a lesson plan. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a great tool for doing just that! I think it does well in preparing you for instruction. However, I think it lacks the perspective of the students.

The ADDIE model is comprised of 5 parts that emphasize's designing instruction for the students rather than just for the learning. It involves analyzing the students before getting into the design which recommends using an objective domain (cognitive, psychomotor, affective). You can decide this based on where your students are at with the learning; if they're getting bored, or need an opportunity to learn from a different method. It also depends on the subject/subject matter. Students are multidimensional learners, therefore considering which route you will take to design a learning experience is imperative to their success. Once you got those down and develop your lesson and implement it, you're left with your chosen method of evaluation.

I think my favourite one was the Keller Arc model, simply because I love the word motivation. Attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction are the 4 parts of this model and they all emanate exactly what I want to get out of my students. I like that it focus' on the students overall experience, and emphasizes relevance. If students can relate to the learning or are intrigued, you have their attention. Making the knowledge achievable provides opportunities for students to build confidence, and rewarding them for their achievements gives them satisfaction in their learning that will motivate them to become lifelong learners.

Peace + Love, Ki
